Our traditional medicine experience is something truly unique. Travel by 4×4 to visit a remote tribal community and meet a traditional medicine man still practising much as his ancestors have for hundreds of years.
Before starting Origins, our founder Dave spent years leading educational programmes for medical students all over the world. This one-day excursion borrows from that experience and his connections in tribal communities built through lifelong friendships.
With one of our Retreat Hosts as your translator and guide, you’ll explore a world of herbal remedies, forest-dwelling spirits and ancient psychology as relevant today as it’s ever been.
For groups with particular interest in healthcare, we can arrange for the day to be led by a local Medical Doctor to help you delve deeper into the contrasts and some surprising similarities with modern medicine.
The traditional medicine experience is a highly-customisable element of your retreat itinerary that we adapt to suit the interests of your group. You can visit the Hehe (pronounced “hay-hay”) tribe that is indigenous to the Iringa Region, or the nomadic Maasai – or both.
