Origins Africa Retreat is an eco-lodge for small groups that blends the adventure of Africa with comfort that's kind to the planet.

Our space is designed for a wide range of retreats, from yoga, women’s wellness and corporate retreats to special gatherings of families and friends.

The brand new lodge accommodates up to 16 people in beautiful en-suite rooms, dotted among the boulders and native woodland of our hilltop setting. We’re deeply integrated into a community we’ve been part of for 16 years, helping provide a wonderfully authentic experience of East Africa’s people and culture.

Our small and passionate team works between the retreat and our Headquarters in Scotland. We’ll take care of everything you need on the ground, so you’re free to focus on your guests and the experience.

Each of our chalets is lovingly hand-built by local craftsmen with natural volcanic stone and sustainably sourced timber grown within 100 miles of the retreat.

We can sleep 12 people in private ensuite rooms with either twin beds or super king doubles, and a further four sharing our epic banda room.

Our on-site facilities include a spectacular panoramic yoga deck, all-weather studio/shala, wood-fired sauna with icy natural waterfall in the woods, art and craft workshop and sunset terrace for communal dining.

In keeping with our off-the-beaten-path ethos, we recommend you skip the crowds and traffic jams of Serengeti for an altogether wilder experience in Ruaha National Park, where elephant, lion and giraffe still roam free relatively undisturbed by human activity.

Top it off with a night or two at our Safari Bush Camp for the ultimate sundowner and a true wilderness adventure, often hearing lions roaring through the night.

Dave’s background in medical education programs here connects us to the fascinating world of traditional and plant medicine in local villages with experiences that can give your retreat a truly unique edge.

Origins Africa Retreat was born from founder Dave’s two-decade journey in Tanzania, where his work in hospitality and education led to deep, lasting connections. But it was the small friendly town of Iringa that truly captured his heart – with its rolling hills, rich traditions, and people who welcome strangers like family.

Working hand-in-hand with the community, Dave built more than a retreat space; he built a platform for shared growth. Every visit brings income and opportunity to local artisans, builders, and families. Guests don’t just observe; they take part in weaving, drumming, cooking, and market – experiences that preserve culture and fuel the local economy.
